Coral Reef

Coral reef in Pangandaran is fringing reef type, which is dominated by Acropora at West Beach and Monticora at East Beach. Coral at both places is dominated by branching, encrusting, and massive type; which indicates strong current at its marine areas. Sadly, observation in 2008 shows that it is damaged; with coverage of live coral reef at West beach was only 11.48% and 18.21% at East beach. This damage is caused by over fishing, collecting the reef and shells by tourists and locals, hit by ship’s screw, and erosion along the river catchments areas leading to high sedimentation level that threatens the life of coral reef.
