Conservation area in Pangandaran is located at Pananjung peninsula, which is administratively divided into Terrestrial Nature Reserve, Marine Nature Reserve, and Nature Recreation Park. Nature Recreation Park is one of tourism attractions in Pangandaran; while the function of Nature Reserve – often mistakenly called ‘National Park’ in guide books - is limited to research and development. The areas are managed by Balai Besar Konservasi Sumber Daya Alam Jawa Barat (West Java Nature Conservation Bureau) of Ministry of Forestry; but the right to run tourism activities at Nature Recreation Park is consessioned to Perhutani.
